Ambassador to the Central African Republic (1984-86), to Mali (1994-97) and to South Africa (2004-2007, also accredited to the kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland).

Post-retirement activities

  • Jan 2008 to July 2010 Ambassador and Special Envoy of the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU to the Mano River Basin (Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d´Ivoire), co-chair of the International Contact Group for the Mano River Basin, representative of the presidency of the Council of the EU in the international contact groups for Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
    • In these capacities reporting to and advisory cooperation with the foreign ministries of Slovenia, France, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Spain and close contact with the relevant authorities of the Council of the EU and EU Commission.
  • July 2008 to October 2010 and from August 2017 to June 2018 Ambassador and Special Envoy of the German Federal Foreign Office campaigning for African support for the German candidacies applying for non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council for 2011/12 and 2019/20.
  • November/December 2015 two-week training seminar for top-level executives in key ministries in Mauritius.
  • Participant in events by political foundations and NGOs concerning African matters.
  • Lectures in training courses for African diplomats in the diplomatic academies of Germany and Austria.
